Natursteig Sieg

The Natursteig Sieg follows the Sieg valley from Siegburg to Mudersbach. Its character comes from changing perspectives: the river may lie below wooded slopes before the path drops into a side valley or returns closer to the water. This is a succession of climbs, woodland paths and open hills rather than a level riverside walk. The main trail stored here measures about 195 kilometres. Between Siegburg, Hennef and Stadt Blankenberg, the route combines the lower valley landscape with towns whose history can also be explored away from the trail. Farther upstream, woodland slopes and side valleys increasingly shape the walk. The loop near Herchen and the circuit around Wissen belong to the complete trail and are included in this track. Quiet woodland, villages and views across the valley continue towards Mudersbach. The official itinerary comprises fourteen stages. Railway connections make many individual sections practical, but station access paths are separate routes. This library entry stores the continuous main trail without adding straight links to stations. Its standard stages therefore mark the corresponding places on the main route. Allow additional walking distance to the stations, particularly at Hennef, Scheuerfeld and Kirchen. The separate Rhine connection west of Siegburg is also outside this track. The modest altitude can disguise the effort involved. Repeated climbs and slippery paths in wet weather can lengthen a walking day considerably. Carry food and enough drinking water, and check accommodation, train connections and current trail notices before setting out. Shorter daily sections make it possible to enjoy the same route over several weekends.
