Sauerland-Höhenflug – Meinerzhagen–Korbach

About this trail

The western branch of the Sauerland-Höhenflug starts at Meinerzhagen-Schallershaus. Its opening days explore the Ebbe hills and the landscape between Valbert, Windhausen and the Lenne valley. Beyond Lenhausen, the route climbs towards Weuspert. Near Röhrenspring it meets the trail from Altena, and both variants share the remaining eastward course. The main trail stored here measures about 202 kilometres. Wooded ridges, meadows and villages alternate with long stretches of open views. Beyond Wenholthausen, the route reaches Bad Fredeburg before crossing the Hunau uplands towards Altastenberg. Kahler Asten provides a distinctive high point, followed by a descent towards Hallenberg. Medelon and the Orke valley lead on to Küstelberg and Düdinghausen. The walk finishes in the Eisenberg area near Korbach. The twelve official stages offer a useful framework for a longer journey. This library entry marks their destinations on the main trail, so access walks to settlements and accommodation must be added where needed, including at Valbert. The black-marked route from Eisenberg into central Korbach is also a separate connection. Korbach in the route name therefore refers to the main trail endpoint near Eisenberg rather than automatically to the railway station. Repeated changes in elevation add up despite the moderate summit heights. Leave some flexibility in daily distances, especially in rain or strong winds on exposed ground. Arrange overnight stops and the return journey ahead, and check current trail notices. Food stops and shops are not directly beside every section, so carry enough water and supplies for the day. The separately available Altena variant reaches the same eastern trail through a different western approach.
